Drivers are ready to start their engines for three days of racing at the Placerville Speedway, and the 2021 NASCAR Cup champion — Elk Grove's Kyle Larson — highlights the weekend's event."I've always kind of thought like, once you win a championship in the cup series, you'd wake up the next day and feel like a totally different person," Larson said."But I don't, you know, I don't think anybody probably does. Life goes on. I got went home to two screaming kids," he continued.Larson's comeback season comes after a career crisis, with NASCAR suspending him for using a racial slur. "I mean, it's been a, you know, definitely crazy 18, 19 months or so, whatever it's been to this point. Like you said, a lot of highs and lows, but very grateful for the second opportunity that Rick Hendrick was able to put together for me," Larson said.Larson is hoping to extend his recent success with hopes of repeating as the Hang Town 100 champion."I always love coming out here and then getting to race on top of it just makes them all that much more fun," he said.Festivities continue for Larson in Elk Grove on Monday with a champion celebration in the downtown area.
