Minor league report: Penguins fall to Thunderbirds in shootout

Forwards Filip Hallander and Radim Zohorna each had a regulation goal and an assist for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 5-4 road shootout loss to the Springfield Thunderbirds at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, Mass. on Friday.

Defenseman Juuso Riikola recorded three assists for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (6-6-0-2) while defenseman Cam Lee and forward Drew O’Connor each scored goals. Goaltender Louis Domingue made 35 saves on 39 shots in regulation and overtime to record the loss.

The Penguins’ next game is a road contest against the Providence Bruins on Saturday, 7:05 p.m.

Goaltender Alex D’Orio made 26 saves on 30 shots for the Wheeling Nailers in a 5-2 road loss to the Indy Fuel at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum in Indianapolis.

Forward Nick Hutchison recorded two assists for Wheeling (5-5-0-0) while forward Chris Alfaro and defenseman Chris Ortiz each scored goals.

Highlights:

The Nailers’ next game is a road contest against the Fort Wayne Komets on Saturday, 7:30 p.m.
