MACON, Ga.-- With flips that defy gravity, and perfectly landed somersaults the ladies competing at the Georgia High School Cheerleading Championships do not have an easy task.

Training daily, for at least two hours the high school students have dedicated their time perfecting their routine, and practicing stunts.

Perry High School senior, Maya Calhoun says she puts her all in every performance.

"We cheer everyday, this week, and everyday this past month, I don't even know how long it's been, but we've put our hard work and effort in it, so it's all worth it," said Calhoun.

Motivated by the lively chants, dances, and screams of their families 32 teams across Georgia competed in the three-day competition.

Cheer mom Kim Hightower said she believes these athletes should get more recognition.

"They don't look at cheerleading as football, or soccer, but it's such hard work and my daughter works very hard everyday as an athlete and as an all-star," said Hightower.

Each day winners in their respective division are announced as 'Champions' of the state.

Among those who won are Creek View High School and Jefferson High.

The competition is set to continue tomorrow, where eight winners will be announced altogether.
