Google recommends charging the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro with its 30 W USB Type-C charger, a separate purchase on top of its new smartphones. However, the company has now confirmed that neither device ever reaches the charger's limits and only recharge as fast as they do wirelessly.

Google has outlined the charging speeds of the Pixel 6 series in a support article. As we have discussed previously, neither the Pixel 6 nor the Pixel 6 Pro can recharge at 30 W, despite Google recommending that people buy a 30 W charger for its latest smartphones.

Until now, Pixel smartphones have topped out at 18 W, a wattage that its competitors surpassed long ago. Google has confirmed that the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will only ever recharge at up to 21 W and 23 W respectively, the same wattage they can pull from the company's new Pixel Stand. The Pixel Stand (2nd gen) can only send over 20 W to the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro with 'performance mode' activated, which switches on a small fan.

According to Google, the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro recharge at peak wattages from 0-50%, roughly 30 minutes. After that point, both devices take another 30 minutes to go from 50-80%, before wattages drop again to trickle the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro to 100%. Ultimately, the Pixel 6 barely recharges faster than the Pixel 5, and at a less consistent wattage.

Incidentally, Google has built Adaptive Charging and other features within Android 12 to minimise battery degradation. You can read more about 'how charging works on Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro' in Google's support article.
