A drink promotion by local McDonald’s has raised thousands of dollars for charity.

The promotion created by Northeast Ohio McDonald’s operators raised nearly $146,000 for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northeast Ohio (RMHC NEO).

From May 31 to Sept. 6, 10 cents from each frozen carbonated beverage or Minute Maid Slushie sold at local McDonald’s restaurants was donated to support the families and children served by Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northeast Ohio programs, McDonald’s officials said in a news release.

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northeast Ohio Inc. enhances the health care experience for families and children through comfort, care and supportive services, they said.

“The funding from this extra promotion couldn’t come at a better time,” said Craig Wilson CEO of RMHC NEO. “We continue to experience budget challenges due to COVID-19, and families with ill or injured children need our services more than ever.

“We are beyond grateful for the support of McDonald’s owner/operators and customers.”

Local McDonald’s operators and owners have supported Northeast Ohio Ronald McDonald House programs for more than 40 years, the release said.

Throughout the years, the owners and operators have helped fund program and facility expansions, served as board members, volunteers and event sponsors, and inspired the involvement of McDonald’s suppliers and employees, according to the release.

“It’s our Charity of Choice,” said Carl Blickle, president of the Northeast Ohio McDonald’s cooperative. “We and our crew members are proud that we make a difference for families in our communities.”
