Netflix has shared exciting news for fans of its French mystery thriller series, as season 3 of Lupin has officially started production.
Sharing the announcement on its official social media channels, the streamer said: "Guess who’s back and ready to steal the show? Lupin Part 3 is now in production!"
Alongside the update – which fans very much appreciated – the streamer released a picture of series star Omar Sy on set in Paris, with the Eiffel Tower clearly visible in the background.
Over on his own Twitter account, Sy reposted the selfie adding: "Feels good being home!"
While Netflix spoiled Lupin fans by releasing part 2 this June, only six months after part 2 first premiered on the platform, we'll likely have to wait longer for part 3 to land on our screens.
The news of the renewal first broke in May, with Sy confirming the news after a French journalist shared the announcement. "We can't hide anything from you. Lupin part 3 is confirmed!" he tweeted.
Speaking to Deadline in March about what the future holds for his character Assane Diop, Sy explained: "We'll see what Netflix wants to do with this franchise."
"The first bet that we won was to bring this character to life and to create a franchise. The franchise exists and now it's up to Netflix to see what they want to do with it. We'll see what they propose, but this is a character that is super enjoyable and who I would take great pleasure in revisiting tomorrow if I can."
The star has since teased that one character will feature more prominently in the future: his beloved canine companion. He also shared that we can expect Assane to accumulate a much bigger team to help with his adventures.
"When you read the books, Lupin has a lot of accomplices. But [in the show] he had the one, which is Benjamin, but he needs people, [so he] hires them. I think it's going to be more interesting maybe one day having a big cast with a lot of people," he told Entertainment Weekly.
Lupin part 1 and 2 are available to stream on Netflix.
