The president of El Paso Community College celebrated opening the doors to the new building at Mission del Paso campus on Friday.
EPCC President, Dr. William Serrata said the new 60,000 square feet building will provide "innovative" learning for students.
The building has space for additional lab, classrooms, and a flexitorium space for that accommodates lectures, performances, guest speakers and special events.
Students in the building will have access to 3D printers, ER Stream table used in Geology classes, GigaMacro which takes high-resolution photographs, a virtually reality sand box that models landscapes and Zspace tablets that create 3D images to create 3-dimensional concepts in biology, physics and geology.
Some students at the campus were excited to see the finished product.
“I like coming to EPCC because it is close to my house and work,” Veronica Martinez, a student who is studying biology said. “I’m excited to take classes in the new building, especially in the new labs.”
Dr. David Raley, History Professor, says the building will help students succeed and focus on school since the facility was designed to encourage students to remain on campus for longer periods of time.
The new building has many spots for students to sit and study, to collaborate, and just to hang out in a quiet and studious environment.
EPCC underwent a plan process that involved input from students, faculty, staff, and the community to enhance student experiences and to prepare for future growth.
The Mission del Paso building is one of these projects.
Mission del Paso Campus is one of five campuses located in EL Paso County near Horizon City.
The campus is the college’s fastest-growing campus, according to EPCC.
