(WHAM) - If you’re in search of a rapid COVID test nearby in the next week, you may be out of luck.
A quick search at CVS pharmacies online shows no available time slots in the Rochester area over the next several days.
However, Greater Harvest Church in Greece, which is a county-run testing site, is seeing steady traffic.
Ahmed Muhumed of Rochester booked an appointment for his sister there Friday after striking out elsewhere.
“I had to try some pharmacies and other places, which were not as fast as this one. Some of them are pretty far from the city, but Monroe County ones are closer to the city,” said Muhumed.
Monroe County public health commissioner Dr. Michael Mendoza says more rapid tests are on the way, with three additional testing sites opening Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.
Some say they are getting rapid tests to gather safely with loved ones.
“My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving, so being together would be wonderful. We missed it last year, so hopefully this year we can do it,” said Carmen LaDelfa of Rochester.
“I already told my sister in law that Thanksgiving is coming. They do a big dinner and everything and I definitely want to be part of that,” said Frances Hare of Rochester.
As county leaders have encouraged residents to get together safely this year, others say they feel assured in finding rapid tests readily available.
“It means a lot. It means that whenever we are tested, we assure that it’ll be fast and it won’t take a lot of time. We can depend on it,” said Muhumed.
Select testing sites in Monroe County accept walk-ins. For more information on available appointments, visit the county’s website at monroecounty.gov.
