Netflix is continuing its existential mood with a brand new South Korean original, Hellbound. What if one day supernatural creatures started to kill people seemingly at random and drag them to hell? That’s the twisted reality Hellbound explores in a series that questions how much influence supernatural forces should have over mortal affairs.

Based on an 11-minute short by director Yeon Sang-ho, Hellbound may be one of the wildest things on Netflix. Wondering if you can expect more? Here’s everything we know about the possible future for Hellbound Season 2.

Will There Be a Hellbound Season 2?

At the moment, it’s too early to say. Netflix typically waits a few weeks before it announces whether or not its originals are renewed. If Hellbound performs well, we can likely expect new episodes. But if it falls through the cracks of Netflix’s vast library, it will likely be one and done.

When Could Hellbound Season 2 Premiere?

Production for Season 1 was announced in April of 2020. By July, Yoo Ah-in, Park Jeong-min, Kim Hyun-joo, Won Jin-ah, Yang Ik-jun, Kim Shin-rok, Ryu Kyung-soo, and Lee Re were confirmed to star in the project. But the series doesn’t seem like it really picked up traction until February of this year.

This timeline may be a bit long considering the delays COVID-19 put on production globally, but it gives us a rough idea of how long it takes to make a season of horror mystery. It seems to take about a year to a year and a half to make a season of Hellbound. If there’s a Season 2, we will likely see it in late 2022 or early 2023.

What Could Happen in Hellbound Season 2?

If Netflix does go forward with a second season of this South Korean drama, there’s certainly more story to tell. As we’ve covered before, Hellbound ends on a major twist. Get ready for some spoilers.

One of the people who died at the hands of these monsters and angels comes back to life. Can she really be considered a human? Why is she alive? Did she actually go to hell? Is she the lucky exception or is everyone else returning from the grave? We have no idea what the answers to those questions are. But if there is a Season 2, we expect that’s what it’ll be about.
