Kevin De Bruyne has tested positive for coronavirus and likely to miss Manchester City's next three fixtures.

The midfielder returned a positive test on Wednesday after playing in Belgium's 1-1 draw in Wales and is in a 10-day period of self-isolation.

It means Pep Guardiola will be without his talisman for Sunday's home game against Everton in the Premier League and then the crunch Champions League tie with Paris Saint-Germain.

City can guarantee they finish top of the group should they beat Mauricio Pochettino's star-studded side at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday.

De Bruyne, who is vaccinated, is expected to remain absent when City host West Ham United on November 28 given a lack of time on the training pitch.

'Two days ago, he told me that he was positive,' Guardiola said. 'Forget about the fitness, the momentum, he has to recover well. The human being is more important than anything else.

'Right now people are dying in this pandemic. He was vaccinated so is more protected and hopefully the symptoms will be minor.

'He will come back as soon as possible. There is no concern about the rhythm or what we are going to miss. We have to help him. He has to isolate at home and hopefully it will go well. He is here (in Manchester).'

Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva are two who Guardiola can choose to play either side of Rodri in City's midfield.

Guardiola expects Jack Grealish to sit out Sunday's game after England sent him back to City early with an injury, while Phil Foden is also a doubt.

'Jack is getting better after being with the national team. I don't think (he can play). Phil came back with some disturbing knock and a problem with his leg but is getting better.'

Grealish's absence may offer Barcelona target Raheem Sterling only a second Premier League start in two months. Sterling also left the England camp before the drubbing of San Marino, with the FA citing a personal issue, but he has since trained with Guardiola's squad.

The 26-year-old unveiled a foundation in his name, 'to champion social mobility and further education' at his old school, Ark Elvin Academy, in Brent on Tuesday.
