TOWN OF ULSTER, N.Y. — A 21-year-old mechanic from New Paltz, N.Y., was seriously injured Friday morning when the car he was repairing slipped off a jack and fell on him, Ulster Police Chief Kyle Berardi said.

Christian Mendez-Tomas was working on the vehicle behind Larsen’s Restoration and Design at 881 Flatbush Road in the town of Ulster. Unfortunately, Berardi said, “he was behind the shop and was not discovered (by other employees) immediately.”

Mendez-Tomas’ coworkers called Ulster 911 at about 10:46 a.m. and he was taken to Westchester Medical Center, Berardi said. His condition and the nature of his injuries were not immediately available Friday afternoon.

“My prayers are with him and his family right now,” Berardi said.

He said the owner and employees of Larsen’s have been “fully cooperative” with police who are investigating the incident.
