Timex and HODINKEE Teamed Up to Create an Explorer-esque Diver-Style Watch

Timex is one of the great American watch brands. The Connecticut-based watchmaker has made many classic watches over the span of its nearly 200-year history, and over the past few years, it has been a part of several notable collaborations. In particular, Timex’s recent collaboration with New York watch retailer HODINKEE was a smash hit, so it only makes sense that the two companies would join forces again to create another limited-edition watch.

Enter the Timex Waterbury HODINKEE Limited Edition, the latest result between this meeting of the minds. The Timex Waterbury HODINKEE Limited Edition is a 40mm diver-style watch with a Japanese-made Miyota 8215 automatic movement. The watch features a stainless steel case with a unidirectional aluminum diver-style bezel. Its black dial has a textured finish and a distinct Rolex Explorer vibe thanks to its Arabic 3-6-9 layout. The printed indices are infilled with Super-LumiNova, and the newly-designed hour and minute hands are also lume-filled. One design feature that the Timex Waterbury HODINKEE Limited Edition retained from last year’s collaboration is the HODINKEE signature above the six o’clock numeral, however, this time the signature matches the black dial for a bit of cheeky secrecy. With a water resistance of 100 meters, it might not be an ISO-certified dive watch, but it’s plenty water-resistant for most daily activities.

The Timex Waterbury HODINKEE Limited Edition serves as the first diver-style watch, as well as the first limited-edition watch, in the Waterbury series. When creating this watch, Timex and HODINKEE wanted to make an accessible diver-style watch that almost everyone could afford, and for a retail price of $279, it seems like they accomplished that goal in spades.
