Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant are both in the midst of tremendous 2021-22 campaigns.
Curry is currently averaging 29.5 points per game on 46 percent shooting from the field, 42 percent shooting from beyond the arc and 96 percent shooting from the charity stripe. In addition, his Golden State Warriors are 13-2 on the year – good for first place in the Western Conference and tops in the NBA.
Durant, meanwhile, is averaging 28.6 points per game on 57 percent shooting from the field, 43 percent shooting from beyond the arc and 85 percent shooting from the charity stripe. His Brooklyn Nets are 11-5 on the year – good for second in the Eastern Conference.
This week, Dwyane Wade was tasked with identifying the superior player. During a recent appearance on the "Dan Patrick Show," Wade was asked point blank: Out of Curry and Durant, who would you start a franchise with right now?
Wade’s answer was fairly succinct.
“That’s a tough one. I’m gonna go with Steph,” he replied. “It won’t make any sense. You can close your eyes and pick. But I guess I went with Steph because Steph has kind of revolutionized the sport. He’s one of those Mount Rushmores from the sense of changing the game the way he has. So I give him a little nod.”
The numbers speak for themselves – Curry is better this year. Will he be able to keep this run going? Time will tell.
