The Chadron Volunteer Fire Department is reminding residents that properly marking mailboxes and households greatly assists in locating patients and responding to other emergency needs.

In rural areas, reflective address signs that are visible from both directions on mailboxes are preferred. In the city numbers that contrast with the color of the house, placed on the front of the house should be well lit and visible from the street.

“GPS doesn’t always provide accurate information to lead responders to a call and in town when houses are close together and not properly marked, responders will end up going door to door to find our patient,” stated Chief Branden Martens. “Taking the time to properly display your addresses assists in reducing response time and allows us to provide the emergency service requested.”
