(WLUK) -- In the wake of the verdict in the Kyle Rittenhouse trial, elected officials from Wisconsin took to Twitter to share their reactions.
Rittenhouse, the Illinois man who fatally shot two people and wounded a third during protests in Kenosha last year, was found not guilty of charges including first-degree intentional homicide. Rittenhouse said he was acting in self-defense.
Here is what various officials wrote on Twitter:
U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wisconsin
U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin, D-Wisconsin
Gov. Tony Evers
U.S. Rep. Bryan Steil, R-1st District (includes Kenosha)
Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul
Wisconsin Assembly Minority Leader Gordon Hintz, D-Oshkosh
President Joe Biden
Rittenhouse had been charged with homicide, attempted homicide and reckless endangering after killing two men and wounding a third with an AR-style semi-automatic rifle during a tumultuous night of protests over police violence against Black people in the summer of 2020. The former police youth cadet is white, as were those he shot.
