Rockstar Apologizes For The Awful State Of GTA: The Trilogy

"Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy — Definitive Edition" has turned out to be a profound disappointment for even the most diehard "GTA" fans. The remastered collection of "Grand Theft Auto 3," "GTA: San Andreas," and "GTA: Vice City" has been met with ridicule for its funny glitches and unintentionally creepy bugs. These issues and more led to the trilogy collection being temporarily pulled from PC storefronts. "GTA: The Trilogy" has become the worst rated game of 2021, with outlets such as Tom's Guide comparing the release of "GTA: The Trilogy" to the fiasco that surrounded "Cyberpunk 2077" last year. Now, Rockstar Games has acknowledged the fan complaints and offered an apology for the sorry state of this much-anticipated release.

In a post to the official Rockstar Games website, the publisher said, "The 'Grand Theft Auto' series — and the games that make up this iconic trilogy — are as special to us as we know they are to fans around the world. The updated versions of these classic games did not launch in a state that meets our own standards of quality, or the standards our fans have come to expect."

Rockstar has a plan in place to not only make up for the issues with "Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy," but to appease fans who don't want to wait to enjoy these classic video game capers.

Rockstar is hoping to fix GTA: The Trilogy

Rockstar has promised fans that a series of updates are in the works, which will hopefully patch out and smooth over the many graphical and mechanical problems with the remastered trilogy. "With each planned update, the games will reach the level of quality that they deserve to be," the post read.

Touching on a much more sensitive subject, the publisher also asked disappointed fans to stop harassing the trilogy's developers. Rockstar encouraged players to "maintain a respectful and civil discourse" as the team worked on rolling out these updates. In the meantime, Rockstar is adding a bundle of the classic versions of "GTA 3," "San Andreas," and "Vice City" to its digital storefront, and anyone who has purchased the trilogy for PC will receive these free of charge. This is a pretty huge deal, considering the fact that Rockstar removed the classic versions from its store shortly after the announcement of "The Trilogy" (per NME).

For many fans, this gesture of good will is too little, too late. Replying to Rockstar's announcement on Twitter, some have told Rockstar that this apology is "not enough" to make up for the shoddy trilogy release, with a number of players still expressing confusion as to how the collection managed to get to market in this shape. Others have maintained that the classic versions of these games shouldn't have been removed in the first place. It's clear from the responses here that Rockstar has quite a battle ahead of it to win back the trust of fans.
