Trevathan, 31, played in just five games after opening the regular season on injured reserve. He was signed by Chicago in 2016, and his current contract with the Bears runs through 2022.

The Bears on Friday also officially signed veteran pass rusher Bruce Irvin to their practice squad. Irvin, 34, has 52 sacks in 121 career games. He played in two contests last season before suffering a torn ACL in September in 2020.

The Bears also promoted pass rusher Cassius Marsh from their practice squad to the active roster. The 29-year-old Marsh has one sack this season.

The Bears (3-6) host the Ravens (6-3) on Sunday at Soldier Field.
