Want to know more about the FFXIV Sage job that's just arrived with the Endwalker? With more story and cutscenes than Shadowbringers, the new expansion promises to be big. A new Reaper job is also available alongside the Sage, and male Viera have joined the selection of FFXIV races you can choose from.

With Endwalker's Early Access now live, you'll want to take a look at what the new FFXIV job offers so you can figure out whether it's something you might want to play. So with that in mind, here's what you need to know about how to unlock the FF14 Sage job, and everything else you need to know about the new healer.

How to unlock

First, you'll need to own the Endwalker expansion, naturally. But if you're hopping into Final Fantasy 14 for the first time, you won't be able to play as a Sage from the outset. The new jobs require you to level any Disciple of War or Magic job to level 70 before you can pick up the quest to unlock it.

If you meet those requirements, head to the Lower Decks in Limsa Lominsa and speak to the Sharlayan Maiden located at coordinates X:9.4 Y:12.9.

Playstyle

The Sage is a healer, and the Nouliths it uses as a weapon set it apart from the traditional staff or grimoire-wielding support jobs we're used to. It's not a weapon that's appeared in any other Final Fantasy game, as far as I'm aware, though it wouldn't look out of place in a boss fight. It's particularly impressive when you see the Nouliths spinning around or focusing into a four-pronged laser attack, which you get to see in the trailer above.

Heal by dealing damage
A few of the Sage's damage-dealing abilities heal an ally for a set amount if they've been buffed with a specific ability—essentially, a percentage of your damage will convert to healing. If you've played World of Warcraft's Discipline priest, you should already be familiar with the basic idea.

Barriers and direct heals
It's not all about passive healing through damage, though. The Sage has some direct healing spells and uses barriers to help party members mitigate incoming damage. It has single-target, AoE, and regen healing abilities, along with one main barrier—though a couple of these direct healing spells also become barriers when buffed.

Addersgall gauge
This job gauge accumulates both Addersgall and Addersting, which are then used to cast specific abilities. While Addersgal regenerates automatically over time, Addersting is acquired when certain barrier stacks are consumed or broken.

Eukrasia	Level 30	Augments certain offensive and healing magic actions. Dosis III is upgraded to Eukrasian Dosis III. Diagnosis is upgraded to Eukrasian Diagnosis. Prognosis is upgraded to Eukrasian Prognosis.
Eukrasian Diagnosis	Level 30	Restores target's HP. Cure Potency: 300 Additional Effect: Erects a magicked barrier which nullifies damage equaling 180％ of the amount of HP restored. When critical HP is restored, also grants Differential Diagnosis, nullifying damage equaling 180% the amount of HP restored. Duration: 30s Effect cannot be stacked with Eukrasian Prognosis or scholar's Galvanize.

Zoe	Level 56	Increases healing magic potency of your next healing spell by 50%. Duration: 30s.
Pepsis	Level 58	Restores own HP and the HP of nearby party members by removing Eukrasian Diagnosis and Eukrasian Prognosis effects granted by you. Eukrasian Diagnosis Cure Potency: 450 Eukrasian Prognosis Cure Potency: 350 Targets not under the effect of Eukrasian Diagnosis or Eukrasian Prognosis will not be healed.

Haima	Level 70	Erects a magicked barrier around self or target party member that absorbs damage equivalent to a heal of 300 potency. Additional Effect: Grants 5 stacks of Haimatinon Duration: 15s When the barrier is completely absorbed, a stack of Haimatinon is consumed and a new barrier is applied. When the effect duration expires, a healing effect is then applied. Cure Potency: 150 per remaining stack of Haimatinon.

Enhanced Kerachole	Level 78	Adds an additional effect to Kerachole that grants healing over time.
Offensive Magic Mastery II	Level 82	Upgrades Dosis II to Dosis III, Phlegma II to Phlegma III, Eukrasian Dosis II to Eukrasian Dosis III, Dyskrasia to Dyskrasia II, and Toxikon to Toxikon II.
Enhanced Healing Magic	Level 85	Increases the healing potency of Diagnosis to 450 and Kardia to 170. Also increases the strength of barriers granted by Eukrasian Diagnosis to 180% the amount of HP restored, and Eukrasian Prognosis to 320% the amount of HP restored.
Enhanced Zoe	Level 88	Reduces Zoe recast time to 90 seconds.
