Princess Charlene only just returned to Monaco 11 days ago after a prolonged stay in South Africa, a trip which was unexpectedly extended due to health concerns. Now, her husband, Prince Albert, has confirmed that she has entered a treatment facility "outside of Monaco."

Princess Charlene is suffering from "exhaustion, both emotional and physical," Prince Albert told People, confirming that her condition requires several weeks of care at a minimum. He also opened up about Princess Charlene's initial days back, saying that her return "went pretty well in the first few hours, and then it became pretty evident that she was unwell."

"She was clearly exhausted, physically and emotionally. She was overwhelmed and couldn't face official duties, life in general or even family life," he said.

Prince Albert also made an effort to address rumors regarding the state of their marriage. "I'm probably going to say this several times, but this has nothing to do with our relationship. I want to make that very clear. These are not problems within our relationship; not with the relationship between a husband and wife. It's of a different nature," he said, noting that Charlene's health concerns are also not related to COVID-19 or cancer, or due to plastic surgery.

During her time in South Africa, the princess reportedly suffered from and ear, nose, and throat infection which prevented her from being able to fly and ultimately required a series of corrective surgeries.

"Obviously there were consequences of her different surgeries and the procedures she underwent in the last few months," Albert told People. "That certainly was a factor, but at this point I prefer not to comment further. I can say she was suffering incredible fatigue. She hadn't slept well in a number of days and she wasn't eating at all well. She has lost a lot of weight, which made her vulnerable to other potential ailments. A cold or the flu or God help us, COVID.
