The Semperoper Dresden was forced to cancel the final performance of Rossini’s “La Cenerentola” on Nov. 18, 2021.

The news was brought to the audience five minutes before the start of the performance. The Semperoper was also previously forced to cancel the double bill of Mascagni’s “Cavalleria Rusticana” and Leoncavallo’s “Pagliacci” on Nov. 17 due to cases of COVID-19 among chorus members.

The cast for the performance included Maxim Mironov, Maurizio Muraro, Andrei Zhilikhovsky, Pietro Spagnoli, Alice Rossi, Anna Kudriashova-Stepanets, and Emily D’Angelo in the title role. Alessandro De Marchi was signed on to conduct a production by Damiano Michieletto.

The government of Saxony is preparing new measures in order to curb the spread of coronavirus, with details expected on Nov. 19, 2021.
