An NBA champion with the 2016 Cleveland Cavaliers, Iman Shumpert is also a rapper and a TV personality outside of basketball. His off-court career has no doubt been burgeoned by his marriage to Teyana Taylor, an R&B star who's collaborated with the likes of Beyoncé, Jay-Z and Kanye West.

Born on December 10th, 1990, in Harlem, Teyana Taylor is a well-known actress, singer-songwriter, dancer, choreographer, director and model.

At only 15 years old, Taylor signed a record deal with producer Pharrell Williams and his label Star Trak Entertainment. Two years later, she made her first national television appearance on MTV’s My Super Sweet Sixteen. In the same year, she appeared in Jay-Z’s “Blue Magic” music video as a dancer.

In 2008, Taylor debuted her first single, “Google Me,” which reached number 90 on US Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs.

Taylor ventured into acting in 2010 where she appeared in the film “Stomp The Yard: Homecoming”. That same year, Taylor appeared on West’s album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, lending vocals to a series of tracks including “Dark Fantasy” and “Hell of a Life.”

“He played the ‘Dark Fantasy’ and he hears me humming, he was like, ‘Oh you have like a little voice, can you put some harmonies back there?’” Taylor told Brittany Spanos of Rolling Stone.

“His album had to be turned in in like four hours. He’s always been this way. He had like four hours to turn it around and by the time I got done, he had only three hours left of turning it in. They had to drag me out of that booth, you hear me? When I played that shit, everybody in the studio went fucking crazy. Everybody went bananas.”

In January 2012, Teyana Taylor parted ways with Star Trak/Interscope. During this time, Taylor went on to release a mixtape titled The Misunderstanding of Teyana Taylor as an independent artist.

Eventually, Taylor signed with West’s label GOOD Music and The Island Def Jam Music Group, where she was featured in a number of projects alongside with big names in the industry such as John Legend, Cyhi the Prynce, Malik Yusef and Travis Scott.

On July 27th, 2014, Taylor announced via Twitter the title of her debut studio album called VII.

At the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards, West released the music video for his single “Fade”, which features Taylor performing a dance routine in a gymnasium.  The video also includes Taylor’s husband, Iman Shumpert.

Taylor released another album under GOOD Music titled KTSE, an acronym for Keep The Same Energy, on June 22, 2018. In November 2019, she released a collaboration single with fellow R&B singer Kehlani titled Morning.

Teyana Taylor released her latest studio album in June 2020. Called The Album, it features Erykah Badu, Kehlani, Lauryn Hill, Future, Rick Ross, Quavo and Missy Elliott, among others. The Album debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard 200, giving Taylor her first top-10 record.

In December 2020, Teyana Taylor announced her retirement from the music industry due to the lack of support she is receiving from her record label, Def Jam.

In multiple messages on social media, she said that her label wasn’t giving her any ‘push’ over the years and repeatedly asked to be dropped from their roster.

“I am going to feel underappreciated if I’m putting in 110% and my label is giving me — they’re reciprocating, what, 10% of that.”

“I can see maybe how my message can come across, but at the same time, I feel like it’s a tiny bit selfish to say, ‘What about your fans? Do it for your fans,'” Taylor said. “Baby, I gotta do it for my mental health. I have to do it for my emotional health. I have to do it for my kids, so I can stay alive for my kids. Until I'm free, until I can get [Def Jam] to release me, yes I want to retire. I don't want to do this anymore.”

Aside from her music, Taylor also has multiple business ventures in her portfolio.

In 2013, Taylor signed a deal with Adidas to design sneakers with the shoe brand. The first one was the Harlem GLC’s,  released the same year. According to Adidas Global Director of Entertainment and Influence Marketing, Jonathan Wexler, Taylor’s sneakers were the fastest-selling sneakers in Adidas Originals history.

In 2017, Taylor joined the likes of Future and Kendrick Lamar as sponsors of the shoe brand Reebok.

In the same year, Taylor launched her workout program called “Fade 2 Fit.” It's a 90-day workout program that focuses on dance and fitness routines. Under the same brand, Taylor also released a line of workout apparel.

In 2018, the power couple of Teyana Taylor and Iman Shumpert launched a TV show following their daily lives in the music, sports and fashion worlds called Teyana and Iman.

Three years later, the couple released another series following their lives, this one called We Got Love: Teyana & Iman. Taylor appeared in the Eddie Murphy movie Coming 2 America in 2021. Shumpert, meanwhile, recently appeared as a contestant on Dancing with the Stars.

As you can see, Iman Shumpert and Teyana Taylor are a power couple who continuously use their platform to inspire, motivate and entertain the masses.
