The Texas Rangers were an absolute dumpster fire in 2021, winning just 60 games to finish with the third-worst record in baseball. The Rangers are now hoping to make a splash in free agency, and according to MLB Network's Jon Morosi, they have their eyes on a few of the top available shortstops.

Thursday night, Morosi reported that the Rangers are showing interest in Marcus Semien, in addition to their pursuits of Corey Seager and Trevor Story. Texas is clearly interested in adding some top-flight talent to the roster after last season's debacle, but as always, the question is what the franchise is willing to offer for these players who have a hot market.

Semien is coming off a career year in which he slugged 45 home runs and knocked in 102 runs, both career-high marks. He also made his first All-Star Game for a powerful Toronto Blue Jays squad.

Seager was limited by injuries in 2021, but he was still a terrific player for the Los Angeles Dodgers when he did take the field. He slashed .306/.394/.521 in 409 plate appearances. His .915 OPS was one of the best of his career.

Story had a down year with the Colorado Rockies compared to some of his recent seasons. After hitting 37 and 35 home runs, respectively, in 2018 and 2019, he hit 24 this past season and drove in 75 runs. His slash line was also down across the board from those All-Star seasons.

We'll see how the Rangers make out in these pursuits. They'll have plenty of competition, so buckle up.
