Josh Doig has signed a new five-year deal at Hibernian three months after coming close to leaving the club.

Head coach Jack Ross said Ross was "highly likely" to be sold shortly after the current campaign started.

However, no move materialised and the 19-year-old left-back has followed Jake Doyle-Hayes, Christian Doidge, Lewis Stevenson and Paul Hanlon in agreeing a new deal.

"I'm so happy here and wouldn't change it for the world," Doig said.

And Ross commented: "There was a lot of speculation regarding his future in the summer, but he showed a real maturity to deal with a difficult situation."

Doyle-Hayes says the Hibernian squad are "buying into the direction" of the club after he extended his stay until summer 2025.

"There's been a few people signing contracts recently and the core of the group is staying together," said Doyle-Hayes, 22.

Captain and defender Hanlon and striker Doidge committed to 2024 and left-back Stevenson agreed fresh terms until 2023.

Stevenson hopes to play his entire career at Hibs, with the 33-year-old having made more than 500 appearances since his debut in September 2005. He helped Hibs to League Cup success in 2007 and triumphed in the Scottish Cup nine years later.

"I still think I've got a lot to give on and off the pitch. I want to continue having success," he said.
