Scarlett Johansson Is Producing a “Top Secret” Movie For Marvel Studios

Fans and industry insiders have had very good reasons this year to believe that Scarlett Johansson is done with Marvel. After all, her character, Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff was killed off before she headlined her own film. Additionally, Johansson sued Disney last summer over  Black Widow‘s hybrid release. While the suit was settled two months later, it still seemed unlikely that Johansson ever would return to the MCU. Regardless, a new report on Deadline states that Johansson is plotting her Marvel comeback as a producer, not an actress.

Deadline’s report indicates that Kevin Feige revealed Johansson is producing a “top secret Marvel Studios project.” Feige also confirmed that the movie in question would not be Black Widow-related.

“Scarlett has lent her talent and star power to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for over a decade,” said Feige. “That she’s chosen to play a key part in it for so many years, I am extremely grateful for. Working with [her] has truly been one of the most memorable and rewarding collaborations of my career.”

Feige didn’t share any additional details about Johansson’s next MCU project. But presumably it’s a film that hasn’t been announced yet. It also seems like a safe bet that the project will feature a female lead.

While Johansson’s lawsuit received an unusually aggressive response from Disney’s legal team, she also remained attached as a producer to the Tower of Terror adaptation following the settlement. However, it’s unclear if Johansson plans to star in that film.
