Manchester United Star Rejects New Contract Offer And Will Now Push For January Transfer Exit

Jesse Lingard is preparing for an exit from Manchester United in the January transfer window after contract talks collapsed, according to stunning reports.

The 28-year-old United player’s long-term future at Old Trafford has been uncertain for some time ahead of his contract expiring in 2022.

Lingard was loaned out in the second half of last season to West Ham and underwent a career revival in east London.

The England international’s six-month spell at the Hammers saw Lingard score an impressive nine times and register five assists in only 16 appearances.

Lingard remained at Old Trafford for the current Premier League season, despite West Ham manager David Moyes interested in signing him in the summer window.

The United star has been battling for minutes at Old Trafford and managed only eight appearances across all competitions this season.

The Times reports that United were keen to renew Lingard’s contract and opened talks over a new deal.

However, the newspaper claims that the Red Devils’ initial offer for Lingard would see his salary drop at Old Trafford.

Lingard’s representatives have reportedly been in talks with a club in Spain amid uncertainty surrounding the United player’s future.

According to The Daily Mail, Lingard is now willing to exit Old Trafford in January and is eyeing up a potential loan deal.

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitted ahead of the current season that Lingard would be part of his plans after returning from his successful loan spell.

The Times claims that Solskjaer had assured Lingard he would receive more playing time at United this season.

However, Lingard was reportedly left ‘perplexed’ when the United boss opted to start Daniel James only days ahead of completing his £25m transfer to Leeds.

Former Sunderland striker Kevin Phillips has insisted that it should be a “no-brainer” for Everton to make a move for Lingard if he leaves United.

“It’s almost a no-brainer in my opinion,” he told Football Insider.

“What he did at West Ham was phenomenal. Whichever club signs him, if he does leave United, is getting a top-quality player.

“He’s so effective in the final third. He can finish. I think he’d be a big asset to any football club.

“A lot of Premier League teams will be looking at him but he would fit in well at Everton. Geographically, it would make a lot of sense as well.”
