Fresh Finds: '22 (Taylor's Version)' shines on 'Red'; Juice WRLD releases single posthumously

We’ve arrived at the last week of classes before Thanksgiving break. The excitement to go home for the holidays is quickly approaching and the motivation to go to class is shrinking. With that being said, we could all use some new music to help power through the week. Luckily, we have some new tunes to keep you energized during these long days and long nights.

While everyone has their favorite genre of music, we’ve made a playlist that will appeal to any mood or preference. Below are new songs that are perfect for walking to class, working out at the gym, sitting around in your dorm or cranking out those last-minute papers. Here are seven new songs to get you through the week:

“22 (Taylor’s Version)” by Taylor Swift

The long-awaited re-recording of Taylor Swift’s fourth album, Red, is finally here. The album boasts 30 songs, including eight previously-unreleased tunes. Swift partners with Phoebe Bridgers on “Nothing New” and Chris Stapleton on “I Bet You Think About Me.”

This time around, Taylor re-records most of the songs acoustically, creating a fitting sound for fall. When “it feels like a perfect night to dress like hipsters,” we all know Swift is feeling twenty two.

“2little 2late” by PmBata

Rising pop sensation Pmbata, best known for his song “Roadtrip,” returns with “2little 2late.” It is a uniquely authentic piece with pop-rap beats that showcase PmBata’s continuous ability to challenge genre lines.

The song is about people from the past; they have started “hitting me up out of the blue now that I’ve become more successful than I was back when I was rapping in the hallways of my high school,” PmBata said in a Pressparty interview. He made it big and now is left to deal with his newfound stardom.

”Already Dead” by Juice WRLD

Released posthumously, "Already Dead" serves as the first promotional single for Fighting Demons, his upcoming posthumous project. According to Genius, Juice WRLD addresses heartbreak and substance abuse with lyrics: "You can see the pain in my laugh/ Demons comin' back from the past." The song references Juice's known addictions to substances which led to his death in December 2019.

Fighting Demons is scheduled to be released on Dec. 10.

“miss me (when you’re gone)” by Will Linley

In today's music climate, some aspiring singer/songwriters post demos of their music on SoundCloud or YouTube and seem to get signed overnight. Others take time. Then, there is Will Linley. As of late, the artist has been accumulating followers upon each post he makes.

The 20-year-old South African singer made his debut with single "miss me (when you're gone)." It’s a song he describes as "a very personal one for me. I had met someone who I felt brought the best part of me. This song is me realizing that I'm going to miss the person that I am when I am around her, when we are no longer together.”

Linley creates the atmosphere of falling in love and falling out again in this song, showcasing well-crafted acoustic guitar and melancholic piano chords.

”OH WELL” by Christian French

Christian French has returned to his roots with the similar musicality he offers every album or single he produces with exciting guitar sounds and instrumentals  with "OH WELL," a song on truly getting to know yourself and taking back control of your life. French said in an interview with RCA, "I wrote this song after a bunch of super sh----- days in a row where I just couldn't catch a break.”

“SUPERFINE” by India Shawn

This is the fifth single on India Shawn’s new album BEFORE WE GO. Shawn collaborated with Anderson.Paak and 6LACK for assistance on some of the other singles on the album.

In her interview with Snobette, she mentioned, “I was preparing for a live show a couple of months back, and as I was writing the setlist, I realized how much the songs say about where I am in my life.” Most of the great singles include “CALI LOVE” and “MOVIN’ ON” as a reflection of who she was from her previous work to where she is now on this album.

”Lady Of Namek” by Tory Lanez

The teases are over as Tory Lanez has finally dropped the lead single from his highly anticipated new album, Alone At Prom. With 80s music trending lately, Lanez creates music with disco-like drums and synth-wave instrumentals. “Lady of Namek” is a recent deviation from the rest of his discography, but a welcome one.

Alone At Prom is scheduled to be released on Dec. 1.
