Vicente Luque is really close to a title shot against Kamaru Usman. He was scheduled to be the alternate at UFC 268 a few weeks ago.

This puts him in a tricky spot as Leon Edwards is also really close to a UFC title shot himself. The two could potentially fight each other to figure it out.

Vicente Luque recently spoke to AG Fight about whether he would be interested in fighting Leon Edwards next. The UFC welterweight is open to anything.

“I would accept (the fight),” the UFC welterweight said via BJPenn. “I saw a lot of people talking about this fight and I didn’t say much because there were a lot of people asking. I’m always ready, I couldn’t beat the weight to be in reserve for Kamaru (Usman) and Colby (Covington), but I got the news within ten days. If the UFC calls me I’ll be in and sign a contract. A month is easy to beat the weight and I would still have time to do a good workout.”

“I think it would remove any doubts. There are people who think I should fight for the belt, there are people who think Leon. He has a great streak of victories, but I’ve done some damage in the division, with victories, so a fight between the two of us would remove any doubts and would be the next challenger for Kamaru.”

Vicente Luque has never been one to turn down a fight and that includes an opportunity against Leon Edwards should the UFC want to go that direction. The Brazilian currently finds himself in a good position to fight for the belt in the near future.
