The Angels’ Shohei Ohtani is coming off a once-in-a-lifetime season in which he was one of baseball’s best hitters and pitchers, and on Thursday he was named the American League’s Most Valuable Player.

Ohtani hit 46 home runs and posted a .965 OPS, both among the top three in the American League. On the mound, he was 9-2 with a 3.18 ERA and 156 strikeouts in 130-1/3 innings.
