House Judiciary ranking members demand Garland answer for raid on Project Veritas

.

Ranking members of the House Judiciary Committee sent a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland demanding answers regarding a raid from federal agents at the home of Project Veritas founder James O’Keefe.

Republican Reps. Jim Jordan, James Comer, and Ron Johnson sent the letter Thursday in response to an early morning raid on Nov. 5 when the FBI seized information from O’Keefe’s residence. The seized materials are allegedly tied to a diary that O’Keefe believes belonged to President Joe Biden’s daughter, Ashley Biden.

The Republican representatives pointed back to Garland’s July memo restricting the Department of Justice’s seizure of sensitive information belonging to the press.

FBI’S BEHAVIOR OVER PROJECT VERITAS INVESTIGATION QUESTIONED

“The Department and the FBI must not be used for political purposes to target the Administration’s political rivals,” the letter reads. “During your confirmation hearing to be Attorney General, you vowed not to weaponize the Department […] we question whether the Department’s actions in this matter are consistent with your commitment.”

The legislators also seek answers as to why the New York Times published a story on the raid within an hour, which raised suspicions the paper had a source within the DOJ who leaked information that was “part of a grand jury investigation and should have been nonpublic.”
