Fans of Warner Bros.'s most famous IPs will finally be able to answer the age-old question: who would win in a fight, Shaggy or Batman?

The company made the announcement of its latest title through the verified MultiVersus Twitter account in the early morning of Thursday, Nov. 18. In a short video trailer, Tony Huynh, MultiVersus co-founder and game director, explained exactly what they were hoping to bring to players when the game launches in 2022.

Here's what we know about MultiVersus.

Warner Bros. Games Announces New Platform Brawler 'MultiVersus'

MultiVersus is a platform-brawler that will combine the multiple IPs under Warner Bros. jurisdiction together, under one roof, for a knock-down/drag-out team-building fight.

According to Huynh, the game will feature both cross-platform and cross-progression play so players can focus on enjoying the game wherever they feel the most comfortable. It is set to launch across several platforms and be free-to-play for any interested in jumping into the fray.

The team behind MultiVersus is committed to server health and stability to bring the "most responsive gameplay" to fans.

What makes the game unique is its emphasis on team-based strategy and playstyles. Several characters have abilities that can extend to their teammates—e.g.: Wonder Woman lassoing a teammate from falling off the stage. Others have similar skills that can aid their teammates and form strategies—like Batman's smoke bomb obscuring movements.

"We built the game from the ground up with teamwork and co-op to deliver a more unique experience we think players will enjoy," Huynh said.

This extends to the game's social scene as it will support the ability to form and join guilds. There will also be leaderboards where players can measure themselves against the best in-game.

Of course, those who prefer to play solo will still have that freedom, as well.

Additionally, the roster will be fully voice-acted by some of the most famous and iconic names in their franchises. At the time of writing, the full list of playable characters and their voice actors includes:

  • Arya Stark (Maisie Williams)
  • Shaggy (Matthew Lillard)
  • Harley Quinn (Tara Strong)
  • Superman (George Newbern)
  • Batman (Kevin Conroy)
  • Finn the Human (Jeremy Shada)
  • Garnet (Estelle)
  • Bugs Bunny, Tom & Jerry (Eric Bauza)
  • Jake the Dog (John DiMaggio)
  • Wonder Woman (Abby Trott)
  • Reindog (Andrew Frankel)
  • Steven Universe (Daniel DiVenere)

Considering Huynh's own claims of an ever-expanding cast, players can safely assume this is far from the full list slated for launch. Those who are partial to a particular character or simply enjoy flexing their fashion sense will be able to apply different skins for that extra bit of customization, too.

Those interested in getting in on the ground floor can sign-up to be part of the MultiVersus playtest via the game's website. There is also a public Discord server.

MultiVersus will go live in 2022.
