The two singers, considered icons of rock by their fans, are two of the key influences and inspirations for and behind the music she now shares with the world. She’s an artist working hard to be uniquely herself in everything she does – not an easy feat when so much of the world expects people to blend in with everyone and everything around them.
Her new single, “FADED MEMORY”, which PopWrapped are delighted to premiere, is one that taps into the depths of an experience many who hear it will find immensely relatable – heartbreak. With its introspective lyrics and upbeat, anthemic vocal melodies, anyone looking for a song to blast to help with the post-break-up blues need look no further.
Asked about the inspiration to and song-writing process for the track, K4YLEE shares: “’FADED MEMORY’ came to me as I was sitting in bed eating ice cream the day of a breakup. We’ve all sat in bed reliving old memories and emotions, so to cope I wrote a song about it. I initially imagined ‘Faded Memory’ as a slower, more melancholic ballad, perhaps symbolic of my feelings after the breakup. However, a few demos – and a few more pints of ice cream – later, we decided to speed the tempo up to create more of an energetic, sad girl anthem. Creating this song and seeing it come to fruition helped me get out of my post-breakup funk!”
She goes on to add: “While ‘FADED MEMORY’ is definitely the most upbeat and ‘fun’ sounding track in my catalog, the lyrics explore what it feels like to deal with heartbreak. This one definitely hits close to home for me, because while I’m not in the mourning period anymore, it brings me back to what I felt post-breakup, but at the same time I think it’s empowering knowing that I made something beautiful out of a dark time in my life.”
