Tottenham Hotspur wants to improve their midfield, and they made the first steps adding Pape Matar Sarr over the summer, but it’s only the first step. The north London-based club has its eyes on another midfielder that could come to the Premier League side on a free transfer.

Spurs are pursuing AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessié, whose contract will expire next summer and in January can sign a pre-contract with any club that kicks in next season.

Nonetheless, Tottenham isn’t the only club eyeing the 24-year-old and Italian journalist Paolo Bargiggia stated that Calciomercato’s Twitch (via Spurs Web) that Paris Saint-Germain is the favorite to land Kessié.

Losing out on Kessié wouldn’t be the end of the world. However, not grabbing a player of that caliber and only needing to pay his wages does hurt the transfer budget a little as it now means Tottenham will need to spend on a fee plus salary.

It will be interesting to see if Tottenham can sway him with Fabio Paratici and Antonio Conte’s project in January.
