Ric Flair feuds with Becky Lynch, accuses WWE of erasing his legacy

Ric Flair has a podcast to promote – and he is taking swings.

Over the course of Wednesday and Thursday, the 16-time world champion’s Twitter page has included barbs with Becky Lynch — his daughter Charlotte’s longtime storyline rival — and his former employer WWE.

The latest saga with Ric Flair and Becky Lynch came earlier this week. Lynch gave a strong promo implying Charlotte Flair had ripped off her father’s gimmick.

In response, the elder Flair tweeted, “I Think I’m Going To Have To Make The Trip Personally To See You Beat The Piss Out Of @MsCharlotteWWE! I Don’t Think So Sister, The Man, Big Time Becks, Or Whatever You Call Yourself. There’s Not Enough Choreography In The Business To Save You @BeckyLynchWWE.”

Later, Lynch was asked about this tweet in an interview with Ariel Helwani, and she accused Ric Flair of using her for “clout.”

“Look, I saw that tweet. The one you’re referring too, the one I’m referring to,” Lynch said. “I wrote out a response that would’ve been quite biting, and I deleted it and I let it go because I think it’s really sad. This a legend at one point. This legend, a 16 World Champion Ric Flair, is now jealous of me. That’s cool, it’s cool for me. And he’s now trying to use me to get clout, to promote whatever he has going on next because he’s dug himself into a bit of a hole with other things.”

In response to this, the Nature Boy referenced how he sold the trademark for “The Man” to WWE last year so that Lynch could use it. He said he will always be the man, and for Lynch to ask her husband, WWE star Seth Rollins, to affirm the fact.

“So Disappointed!” Flair tweeted. “I Did This Out Of Respect For You @BeckyLynchWWE! It Made You Millions & Made Me Nothing. After 40 Years Of Being The Man… The Company Doesn’t Own It, And Neither Do You! I’ll Always Be The Man! Ask Your Husband.”

On Thursday, Flair, who obtained his release from WWE this past August, sent a tweet asking for two of his championship belts back from WWE, and accusing them of erasing his legacy.

As we wrote previously when covering how Becky Lynch said she could not trust Charlotte Flair, these outside barbs often blur into the stories that WWE is promoting, and it’s difficult to discern what is real and what is a “work” — the wrestling terminology for being scripted.

Ric Flair’s new podcast debuted this week, and so there’s almost certainly a reason we seem to be seeing more bombast from him than normal.
