Although Baker Mayfield and the Cleveland Browns are busy competing in the NFL, the Browns quarterback has been involved in trying to help out Julius Jones get his death penalty sentence reduced.

According to ESPN, it seems that goal has been achieved. “Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt has commuted the death sentence of condemned inmate Julius Jones.” His case caught the attention of multiple athletes, including Russell Westbrook, Blake Griffin, and Trae Young as well.

“Stitt commuted Jones' sentence on Thursday — the date of his scheduled execution — to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.”

The Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield reacted to the good news on Thursday. Mayfield has been involved throughout a good amount of Jones' process. Julius Jones will not die and will have an opportunity for parole. This is a massive win for him, and anybody supporting Julius Jones.

Typically it's difficult for an inmate facing the death penalty to receive a commute. However, it seems there was enough information available to allow Julius Jones' sentence to be softened. Not only is Baker Mayfield excited about this news, but so are many of the other athletes who originated from Oklahoma.

We'll see what happens for Julius Jones, as his parole gives him an opportunity to reduce his sentence even more so. The Browns quarterback is likely to remain involved, as Baker Mayfield has been on Jones' side for quite some time.

With this great news, the Browns could receive a nice boost from Baker Mayfield. After struggling against the New England Patriots, Cleveland aims to bounce back against the Detroit Lions.
