A few weeks ago, Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures have given an official green light to the Dune sequel which is set to be released in theaters in October 2023. The follow-up installment is expected to cover the second half of the novel and will introduce characters that didn't appear in the first film. Now, we got confirmation that a fan-favorite character will be showing up in the sequel.
In an interview with Empire, Dune director Denis Villeneuve was asked if Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen will be part of the sequel. He responded, "Definitely. That's a choice that I personally brought on. There was enough characters that were introduced in this first part, and it will be more elegant to keep Feyd for Part Two. It will be definitely a very, very important character in the second part."
In case you didn't know, Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen is the menacing nephew and heir of Baron Harkonnen who has a prominent role in the second half of Dune and sparred with Paul Atreides during the climax. He was played by Sting in David Lynch's 1984 adaptation.
It is great to know that we have a confirmation that Feyd-Rautha will be appearing in the sequel, which was already expected even before the sequel was officially given a green light. There are already speculations that Eternals star Barry Keoghan might be in the running to play the role, but it has been debunked as the filmmakers haven't gone into the casting process for the sequel yet.
The first film was praised by critics and fans for its visuals, scope, and its faithful adaptation of the novel. It is expected to be a major contender this coming awards season. It has also earned more than $350 million at the worldwide box office which is considered a success for the studio.

Dune is still showing in theaters and streaming on HBO Max. The sequel is scheduled to be released in theaters on October 20, 2023, with filming set to begin in July next year.
