Young Southampton defender Kayne Ramsay took the opportunity to join Crewe Alexandra on loan for the 2021/22 season to aid his development.

Having made appearances for the Saints first-team in the past, this campaign provided a great opportunity for the young man to get out and play some games in order to prove his long-term worth to his parent club.

Despite a troublesome injury that has kept him out for the last four league games, Ramsay has started 11 league games and two EFL Cup fixtures so far and has impressed in an otherwise struggling side. He will be looking for more clean sheets having only managed two in the games that he has played in to date.

Ramsay will be hoping to play a part in a rise up the table for his temporary side in the second half of this season given that Crewe currently find themselves bottom of the table and six points from safety.

Will Ramsay get future Southampton opportunities?

It remains to be seen whether Kayne Ramsay will be a long-term option for Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl but the important thing is that the 21-year-old is proving his worth in the EFL.

If players are not going to be first-team players in the future for Saints then the aim will always be to find players a career in football at a club where they may be more suited.

Ramsay has played most of his football as a right-back so far in this campaign and he will have significant competition from Kyle Walker-Peters and Tino Livramento in that position when he returns to the south coast.

Just to sum up how much it will take for a return to Saints to pay off for Ramsay, he will be competing for a starting place with two of the most consistent and impressive players in whole senior squad this season.

Ramsay himself will not be focused on that right now though and will most likely be enjoying regular game time in a tough league.
