Manchester United travel to Watford on Saturday afternoon as Premier League action resumes following the international break.

The Hornets have not had it easy since Claudio Ranieri took over at the helm. Other than a thrilling 5-2 win at Everton in his second game in charge, Watford have suffered a 5-0 defeat to Liverpool and 1-0 losses to both Southampton and Arsenal. Sitting in a precarious 17th position, Saturday is an opportunity to get another huge win against a United side who are in torrid form.

Currently occupying sixth spot in the Premier League, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is under serious pressure. Two wins in their previous seven across all competitions has simply not been good enough.

In that time, the Red Devils have been humiliated by Liverpool and utterly dominated by Manchester City on home soil.

Here's 90min's preview of this encounter.

Watford team news

Midfielder Juraj Kucka will miss United's visit following his sending off at Arsenal last time out.

Ozan Tufan is a doubt for Saturday's clash having picked up a niggle on international duty with Turkey, but if he's fit he's likely to start in midfield.

Kwadwo Baah and Ken Sema were both forced to pull out of their respective international camps, while longer-term absentees Peter Etebo and Christian Kabasele will certainly remain sidelined.

Man Utd team news

Paul Pogba would be out of contention were he fit as he serves the third and final game of his three-match suspension. The Frenchman will be out for much longer, however, having sustained a thigh injury while on international duty and travelled to Dubai for his recovery.

He joins Raphael Varane on the treatment table while Edinson Cavani could also miss out. The Uruguayan was absent from international duty having missed the Manchester derby with a tendon problem.

Luke Shaw, who didn't participate in England's World Cup qualifiers while overcoming concussion, is a doubt but may be ready to feature on Saturday. Marcus Rashford and Scott McTominay could also both return to action, having both missed international duty through illness.

Watford vs Man Utd head-to-head record

As you might expect, United dominate the history of this fixture. Of the two sides' 35 encounters, the Red Devils have tasted victory in 24, while Watford boast just six wins.

Recent history doesn't make better reading, either. The Hornets have won just once in their past eight meetings, although that did come in their most recent clash at Vicarage Road during the 2019/20 campaign. United have claimed the win on the other seven occasions, and have only lost to Saturday's opposition twice in 34 years.

Watford vs Man Utd score prediction

Don't expect the pattern of results to change this weekend. Admittedly, both sides come into the game in poor form, but the simply superior quality that United boast should be more than enough to get back to winning ways on Saturday.

Ranieri's introduction seemed to have lifted Watford greatly after their successful visit to Goodison Park, although two consecutive defeats shows there is still a lot of work to do at the club.

Solskjaer isn't in a much sturdier boat, although the creativity and class that oozes from within the squad has been enough keep the side in the race for European football. Performances haven't been good, results haven't been good and the recent atmosphere around the club hasn't been good.

Despite those obvious problems, however, a trip to Vicarage Road should yield three points.

Prediction: Watford 1-3 Man Utd
