Bayern Munich returns to action following the conclusion of the November international break. The current Bundesliga leaders face Augsburg on Friday night in their 12th match of the Bundesliga campaign. After winning their last four league fixtures, Bayern will be in search of their fifth consecutive win in the Bundesliga. Here are five things to watch for ahead of the Friday night match.

Robert Lewandowski’s success against Augsburg

Lewandowski has had an impressive goal-scoring record against Augsburg in his career at Bayern. With 14 goals in 11 appearances against the Bavarian club, the striker has been a consistent goal-scoring threat whenever he faces Augsburg. With 13 goals already scored by Lewandowski this season, the Bayern star has the opportunity to reach 15 goals with a multi-goal performance on Friday.

Thomas Muller nearing ten assists

With six assists in his last four Bundesliga appearances, Thomas Muller has skyrocketed to the top of the assist leaderboard. His league total stands at eight assists and he will have the opportunity to reach ten assists on Friday with another multi-assist performance. If he does reach ten assists then it will be the ninth time in his career he has achieved a double-digit assist total in the German top-flight.

Augsburg struggling to score goals

Goals have not come easy for Augsburg this season. They have registered just nine goals in 11 matches, ranking them 16th in the league for most goals scored. Four of those nine goals were recorded in just a single match when they defeated Stuttgart 4-1 on Matchday Ten. That win over Stuttgart is only the Bundesliga match this season where they have scored more than one goal in a match.

Against Bayern, Augsburg will likely need to score multiple goals if they want to take at least a point away from this match. Bayern is averaging over three goals scored per match and has been a dominant offensive club thus far. With their goal-scoring struggles, it could be an uphill battle for Augsburg on Friday.

Dominance by Bayern

Augsburg defeated Bayern during the 2014/15 Bundesliga season when they won 1-0 in May of 2015. Since then, Die Roten has won 11 of their last 13 meetings with Augsburg with the other two matches ending in draws. Bayern will certainly be looking to continue their winning ways against Augsburg when they meet again.

More set-piece goals from Bayern?

Die Roten enters this match leading the Bundesliga in set-piece goals with seven. They’ve been getting close to matching last season’s total which was ten set-piece goals scored in the 34 match campaign. Augsburg has allowed just one set-piece goal this season and has been a club that has conceded the majority of their goals through open play. It will be interesting to see if Bayern can get another set-piece goal in this match against a side that has not been conceding many set-piece goals.
