ESPN mocks Michigan edge defender Aidan Hutchinson to the Texans

The Houston Texans need a myriad of help to make their Great Reset successful.

Arguably the biggest help the Texans need is at quarterback, but there aren’t any strong prospects, not like there have been from 2017-21 in the first round.

Houston may have to go with another position of need with their premium, possibly top-3 pick in the 2022 NFL draft.

According to Jordan Reid of ESPN, the Texans will address the pass rush with the selection of Michigan defensive end Aidan Hutchinson.

With nine picks in this draft, general manager Nick Caserio will have an opportunity to imprint his own identity on a roster that has been stripped down to the studs since he took over in January. Deshaun Watson still wants out, which means quarterback is a big need, but the Texans must continue to add talent to the entire roster. Their talent on the edge is scarce, particularly after releasing veteran Whitney Mercilus and trading away Charles Omenihu. Hutchinson (nine sacks, two forced fumbles) would be an upgrade at a premium position and instantly become their best pass-rusher.

Also consider that offensive assistant Ben McDaniels used to be on the Wolverines’ staff. McDaniels can provide even more insight as to what type of player and personality Hutchinson is and if he would be worth the No. 2 overall pick, presuming the Texans finish with that pick.

Even though fans have an eye on next year, general manager Nick Caserio told reporters on Nov. 3 that the club is still intent on winning games in 2021.

“We’re accountable, accountable to this organization, we’re accountable to each other and we just have to find ways to improve and get better,” said Caserio. “That’s our responsibility, not only to each other here in this building but to our fans as well. That’s our commitment and we are going to work as hard as we can and do the best we can on a day to day basis to do that.”

ESPN also says the biggest needs for Houston are quarterback, defensive line, and receiver.
