The University of Maryland Men's Basketball team will honor the late Len Bias next month. Bias is heading into the National Basketball Hall of Fame this Sunday. The induction was posted in 2020 due to the pandemic. At the Terps next home game, they will honor the best player to ever wear a Maryland uniform.
Maryland will celebrate the life and legacy of Bias when it hosts Virginia Tech for its annual "Gold Rush" game Wednesday, December 1st.
As part of the celebration, replica golden Len Bias jerseys will be given to the first 4,000 students in attendance. All fans in attendance will receive commemorative newspapers featuring Bias' greatest accolades and achievements.
Bias finished his four-year career as the program's all-time leading scorer with 2,149 points from 1982-86. He averaged 23.2 points over the course of his senior season in 1985-86. A two-time all-american, Bias is one of only a handful of players to twice earn Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year honors, including Tim Duncan, Danny Ferry and Ralph Sampson.
Bias was selected with the number 2 overall pick in the 1986 NBA Draft by the Boston Celtics, but tragically died just two days later.
