Back in January 2020, Microsoft released the new Chromium-based version of its Edge browser, and since then, the company has been continuously introducing new features to it. Some recent example of new capabilities being tested in Edge"s development channels include a Citations tool, an enhanced CTRL+F toggle, deeper integration with Office, and the replacement of the HTTPS lock icon in the address bar. Now, Microsoft has revealed some shopping-related features that will be rolling out to Edge Stable in the coming weeks to help prepare you for the holiday season.
Microsoft Edge will now automatically tell you if some items you have looking at recently have seen a change in price, so you can grab them at a discounted price as soon as that happens. You will no longer need to manually and frequently check the website in order to keep track of sales. Coupled with existing features like price history, autofill coupons, and reviews, Microsoft is positioning Edge as the ultimate shopping assistant this holiday season. In the same vein, the price comparison and price history tools are coming to Microsoft Edge on Android too.
Next up, Bing will now let you know about "ethically sourced" products through a partnership with Good On You in the UK, detailing sustainability and social responsibility metrics of fashion brands. Microsoft has also collaborated with the Eden Reforestation Project to plant a tree for every 10 online purchases UK consumers make at eligible retailers up until November 30, 2022 and up to a total of £150,000.
A security-related enhancement that Microsoft is delivering is the ability to quickly change compromised passwords using a capability called "easy update". You can simply navigate to Settings > Passwords and then click on the "Change" button next to the credentials you wish to update. You will be directed to the dedicated account management page for the website where Edge will also generate a stronger password for you.
Microsoft Rewards can be pinned to the Edge tool bar so it is immediately accessible for people who heavily utilize it. The browser is also getting an "efficiency mode" that will automatically be enabled when your machine"s battery is low. This will reduce RAM and CPU utilization and extend battery life by a significant amount, according to Microsoft. All the aforementioned features and capabilities will be rolling out to users in this coming weeks.
