JV finishes third at home tourney

The Fort Stockton sub varsity tournament concluded on Saturday, Nov. 13. First place went to Greenwood, second place was earned by Midland Christian and third place stayed in Fort Stockton with the Prowlers JV.

Fort Stockton downed McCamey in the tournament’s third-place game. Melena Ramirez led all scorers with nine points in the Prowlers 39-15 victory. Estrella Aguilar and Dmya Vaughn added six points apiece.

Fort Stockton JV 31 Denver City 27

The Fort Stockton junior varsity squad was able to tame the Fillies on Nov. 9 in a road matchup. The Prowlers defeated Denver City 31-27 behind a well-balanced offense.

Junior Katheryn Mendoza and freshman Aubrey Jones led Fort Stockton with six points apiece.

“Although we won, we have a few things that the Fillies exploited. I’m grateful for these preseason games because it helps my players to understand what we, as a team, need to be better at executing. Overall, I’m proud of these athletes. It was a great Prowler win,” coach Sera Ramirez said.

Monahans 35 Prowlers 8th Grade Blue 33

Fort Stockton’s eighth grade blue team forced overtime against Monahans but were unable to come away with a victory on the road on Nov. 8. Vitoria Maldonado led the Prowlers with 17 points.

“The girls played well as team and had great defense,” coach Mary Villarreal said.

Monahans 18 Prowlers 8th Grade B Team 10

Prowlers eighth grade B team coach Ashley Lawlorn named Natalie Edwards offensive player of the game (6 points), Diem Hinostroza defensive player of the game (6 steals), and Madalyn Gomez MVP for pushing through multiple injuries to play until the end in her team’s 18-10 loss to Monahans on Nov. 8.

“The ladies put up a very tough fight,” she said. “We'll continue to put in the work as we prepare for our next game.”

Prowlers 7th Grade Blue 63 Monahans 8

A trio of Prowlers scored more than Monahans’ entire team in the Fort Stockton seventh grade blue team’s season-opening win on Nov. 8. Valeria Marquez scored 19 points, Kailyn Reeves added 18, and Alondra Encinas finished with 16.

“They continued playing aggressive and used great teamwork. They did a great job,” coach Pat Pena said.

Prowlers 7th Grade B Team 24 Monahans 8

The Fort Stockton seventh grade B team only had six players able to play but still found a way to come away with a victory on Nov. 8.

“We fought hard on defense to cause numerous turnovers,” coach Lauren Rubio said.

Jazlynn Padilla led the team in scoring with 10 points.
