Calling all true crime fans: Netflix is back with a new real-life murder documentary, and this one's all about New York's notorious Times Square Killer.

Following in the footsteps of Crime Scene: The Vanishing At The Cecil Hotel (which was released in February this year), the second season, titled Crime Scene: The Times Square Killer, will focus on a series of murders which took place in New York in the 70s and 80s.

Plus, Crime Scene has officially been renewed for a third and fourth season, so there are plenty more chilling tales on the way. Here's everything we know about Crime Scene: The Times Square Killer so far.

What is Crime Scene: The Times Square Killer about?

The second season of Crime Scene will focus on the Times Square murders committed by serial killer Richard Cottingham between 1967 and 1980.

Nicknamed the Times Square Torso Ripper, records state that Cottingham officially murdered 11 people over 13 years across New York and New Jersey. However, Cottingham claims to have actually committed between 85 and 100 murders, and he's currently still in prison in New Jersey.

Introducing the new season, which will be split into three episodes, Netflix revealed in a statement: "In the second instalment coming Dec. 29, Crime Scene: The Times Square Killer will examine how the danger and depravity of New York’s Times Square in the late 1970s and early 1980s made it possible for one man to commit - and nearly get away with - unthinkable acts in a nearly-lawless area rife with drugs and sex work.

"These three episodes will delve into the social and systemic forces that allowed horrific crimes to go unnoticed for too long."
