Temperatures are dropping, and the strong winds can make it feel even colder.
As the temperature continues to drop there are some things you can do to keep your pets safe and warm.
"If you're taking your dog for a walk you, you know, want to consider the temperature. You also want to look at, you know, is my dog a slick, short-coated dog? They're probably going to want a sweater. Especially when the wind is blowing, it makes it makes it that much colder," said Suzanne Tosten, a volunteer at Mikey's Chance Canine Rescue. "And then I think the other thing people really need to be aware of is people are putting de-icer out on sidewalks and that can be really harmful to your dogs and your cats feet. So you're going to want to wipe them off when you come in using like a wet wash cloth."
Tosten shared that another thing to look out for is the ground getting icy. She said this can cause harm to your pet's paws, so to consider buying your pets some boots.
She also shared that during this time of year you'll want to consider bringing your pets inside so they can stay warm.
However if you keep them outside, make sure they have a covered shelter that has insulation.
She also said you may want to avoid having blankets in outdoor shelters since they trap moisture, and to consider using straw instead.
