Black 14 Philanthropy, LDS Church collaborate on Laramie food donation

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - A collaborative effort between the Black 14 Philanthropy and the Jesus Christ Church of Latter-Day Saints is fighting food insecurity in our region.

Over 40,000 pounds of food was donated to the Laramie Cathedral’s Home for Children and the University of Wyoming Food Pantry.

“A lot of the clients we work with have experienced really difficult times, and I think it is neat to collaborate with the Black 14, who also have had really challenging pieces of their story, but then meaning comes out of it and it’s just a really neat experience,” said Development Director at Laramie Cathedral, Rachel LeBeau.

The donation included several food items, as well as laundry detergent and diapers. The donation was one of nine trucks that delivers to communities across the country.

The Black 14 ‘Mind, Body and Soul’ initiative aims to give back to the community, and works with the LDS Church to reach those who need it the most.

“We have turned a tragedy into philanthropy; and that is what we are going to ride the rest of our lives, because it is important to us,” said Black 14 member, John Griffin.
