Mollie Gallagher has shared her concerns over how Nina Lucas could react if Roy Cropper leaves Coronation Street.

Roy will contemplate leaving Weatherfield for good after coming under police suspicion for the night of the sinkhole collapse last month.

While Roy told police he didn't see Abi Franklin with a gun that night, he actually had to step in to stop Abi from taking murderous revenge on Corey Brent for killing her son Seb.

The whole situation only becomes more complicated as Roy confides in Nina that the gun used by Abi was also later responsible for Natasha's death.

"Nina is shocked when she hears this and she feels a responsibility towards Natasha’s death because everything that happened with the gun is a massive regret," Mollie Gallagher has said.

"She can also see that Roy is distraught about what happened with Natasha and so Nina starts to see herself as this curse and blames herself for everything that is going wrong."

Roy only worries Nina further by taking some suspicious steps by signing over the flat into her name and even selling his car.

"Nina has all these horrible ideas of what is happening after she keeps hearing a number of things about Roy," the actress said. "At first she is very confused but then she thinks that this must be it, that he is going to end his life and she is distraught.

"When she finally finds Roy and he tells her he is leaving Weatherfield because he can’t look Sam in the eye, she blames herself for everything that has happened again because she feels like she is always linked to the bad things that are happening on the street in some way. She can't get it out of her head that she is the problem."

Adding that feelings of abandonment are all too familiar due to Nina's dad's death, Mollie said: "It's really sad because Nina has had a lot of people leave her and she has lost everyone that means the most to her – now Roy is leaving too.

"When her dad left her, it was because her dad died and she remembers that her dad told her that he would have loved to spend more time with her but obviously he couldn't. But she feels like Roy leaving is different because Roy is making the decision to leave her and it’s his choice. She is absolutely gutted and she is trying everything to persuade him to stay."

Mollie acknowledged that the mere possibility of Roy leaving the cobbles could be enough to throw Nina off course again even though she's made so much progress since Seb's death.

"Although Nina is strong, she feels like it is one awful thing after another right now for her," the star said. "We have seen her spiral out of control before after Seb’s death when she was abusing alcohol and this situation would be even worse because she will have lost both Seb and Roy in the space of a few months. I would hate to see what she would do because she will have no one."

She went on: "She tries to talk to [Roy] and use her words. She talks about everyone that she has lost in the past, her mum, her dad, Seb and now Roy. She tells Roy that if he leaves he will be breaking the promise that he made to her dad, the promise to look after her. She can’t understand it because Roy Cropper would never break a promise!

"She feels let down by Roy and she just wants him to stay, she asks herself, how can Roy do this to me? I think if he were to stay, she has already felt so let down by even the thought of him leaving her that it would cause problems for them further down the line."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7.30pm on ITV.
