A bunch of dogs are patiently waiting for forever homes after being rescued from a puppy mill. Nearly 70 are being cared for at DeSoto County Animal Services.

Their owners who let them live in horrible conditions are in jail and possibly facing more charges as an investigation continues.

The 69 dogs got off to a rough start. All of them were rescued from the Strawberry Farms puppy mill in DeSoto County.

DeSoto County Public Information Officer Sara Walker said, “these animals are being well taken care of now.”

Eleven puppies opened their eyes for the first time at animal services. They are getting an eye-opening second chance with caretakers at DeSoto County Animal Services.

“They’re playing with them and just loving on the animals and giving the animals what they’ve needed for a long time,” said Walker.

It is exactly what they need. The once timid pups now bark and jump for joy.

They also have plenty of clean supplies and bottomless food bowls thanks to generous donations from the community.

Walker said, “DeSoto County always steps up in times of need like this.”

A vet will be on-site Thursday to examine the dogs. They won’t be able to go home with new families for a few more weeks.

“When the time is right, and the time comes for the animals to be adopted and rescued. It will be on a first come first serve basis,” said Walker.

One day soon, families can rescue these rescued puppies and get a front-row seat to cheer for the underdog.

DeSoto County Animal Services has enough food and towels thanks to your donations, but there are things they still need.

Items needed include:

  • Nylabones
  • Kong toys
  • Milk bone treats
  • Liquid laundry detergent

If anyone would like to make donations, they can be sent to:
