The Patriots placed outside linebacker Josh Uche on injured reserve Wednesday and activated fellow linebacker Chase Winovich off IR to the 53-man roster.
Uche suffered an ankle injury in last weekend’s win over the Browns. He will miss at least three games, after being limited in Tuesday’s walkthrough and listed as a non-participant on Monday’s projected practice report. In eight games this season, Uche’s recorded three sacks, four QB hits and 10 tackles as a rotational edge rusher.
His playing time had waned the past two weeks. Uche has yet to play half of the team’s defensive snaps in a game this season.
Before hurting his hamstring last month, Winovich totaled seven tackles and one QB hit in six games. It’s likely he will take Uche’s place as a rotational rusher Thursday night against the Falcons. Winovich returned to practice last week.
The Patriots also waived wide receiver Malcolm Perry off injured reserve Wednesday. The second-year wideout never played a down in New England, where he arrived after the Dolphins waived him on cutdown day. Perry entered the league as a 2020 seventh-round pick out of Navy.
