Free Guided Rock Climbing Opportunity This Saturday in New Paltz
If you've ever considered rock climbing but haven't found the right opportunity to do so, this weekend there is a unique chance to climb one of the most beautiful areas of the Hudson Valley.
EMS Guides, the Eastern Mountain Sports Schools, is looking for volunteers for a free outdoor rock climbing day this Sunday, November 21st, from 8:30am until 3:30pm (approximately) under the direction of a professional guide, in the Gunks in New Paltz.
In order to participate, you must be over the age of 16, and no outdoor climbing experience is necessary, and actually, no experience is preferred.
The climb will include beginner to low intermediate climbing and rappelling with guide candidates under the supervision of an AMGA Certified Rock Instructor for the American Mountain Guides Association Single Pitch Instructor assessment. Essentially, the climb will be part of an evaluation of climbing guides under the the supervision of another trained guide. The guide candidates will be evaluated on their group management in a teaching setting.
A few weeks back there was another evaluation day where candidates we evaluated on their technical skills.
While the guided rock climbing itself is at no cost to the participant, volunteers selected for this opportunity are responsible for their own day passes to Mohonk Preserve or Peterskill climbing areas. Access to these areas are required and are the financial responsibility of each participant.
