Few could take down Mike Tyson during his storied boxing career.
It wasn’t an issue for toad venom.
Tyson, 55, claimed he “died” after he ingested the psychedelic substance for the first time. The comments reported by the New York Post were made at Wonderland, a Miami conference dedicated to psychedelics, microdosing and medicine.
“I ‘died’ during my first trip,” the former world champion boxer told the publication. “In my trips I’ve seen that death is beautiful. Life and death both have to be beautiful, but death has a bad rep. The toad has taught me that I’m not going to be here forever. There’s an expiration date.”
The “toad,” according to the Post, is Bufo alvarius, a Mexico amphibian otherwise known as the Sonoran Desert Toad. It’s venom can apparently be smoked to produce a short psychoactive trip.
Tyson said he tried it for the first time four years ago when he was 100 pounds overweight, drinking and doing drugs. One of his friends suggested he try toad venom as a dare, and he loved it, according to the Post.
He’s now tripped on the toad venom 53 times, the Post reported.
Decriminalizing psychedelics has been a hot button issue recently. In Michigan, cities like Ann Arbor and Detroit have already done so while Grand Rapids has altered its policies on policing the drugs.
Decriminalization resolutions are expected to be presented by early 2022 in East Lansing, Lansing and Hazel Park.
Movements have begun to pick up steam in in Traverse City, Ypsilanti and Flint, Decriminalize Nature Michigan co-Director Myc Williams told MLive earlier this month.
